Integrating Sustainability into Our Production Processes

At EUROPEAN FOOD INTERNATIONAL, we are dedicated to building a greener and more sustainable future.

Environmental protection is a key and priority component of our operations, which we take with the utmost seriousness, focusing on several important axes.

Reducing Carbon Footprint

Through significant efforts and investments, we have successfully reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 68% in recent years, an important step in our environmental protection policy. This reduction is due to eliminating the use of fossil fuels in thermal power plants in favor of renewable fuels (including biomass) and natural gas.
Our efforts don’t stop here, as we are committed to further improving this objective in everything we do.
We have acquired state-of-the-art production equipment that uses modern technologies aimed at optimizing production processes and energy consumption, as well as electric machinery for handling and transportation.

Green Energy

Understanding the importance of using renewable energy sources, we decided to install a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 1.45 MWh to maximize the use of green energy in our production processes.

Packaging Management and Hazardous Waste Disposal

Another important aspect of our environmental policy, to which we pay special attention, is the management of packaging introduced to the market and the disposal of hazardous waste. To facilitate this process, we collaborate with specialized units in accordance with current environmental regulations.
We also promote and practice selective waste collection for recycling purposes.

Preventing and Combating Accidental Pollution

We are committed to preventing and combating accidental pollution by implementing a robust and efficient plan that helps us protect the environment.

We ensure rigorous control of all activities carried out, including manufacturing processes, services, installations, machinery, raw materials, and the working environment, integrating our environmental concerns at every stage.

Emergency response plans and instructions are in place within the company to identify potential emergency situations, ensuring an adequate and prompt reaction.

When handling hazardous chemicals, we ensure they are packaged, labeled, and classified according to national legislation and relevant European regulations. We also ensure that all hazardous waste is responsibly collected, transported, and disposed of to minimize risks to human health and the environment.

Thanks to ongoing preventive activities, combined with staff training and awareness, no major accidents caused by hazardous chemicals have been recorded.

Sustainable Water Resource Management and Wastewater Pretreatment

We have adopted sustainable practices in water resource management and have invested in building a high-performance pretreatment plant.

The pretreatment of wastewater is an essential step in ensuring a clean environment. By properly treating water before it is released into the ecosystem, contamination and pollution are significantly reduced.

Thus, wastewater from production activities and domestic wastewater are collected through a separate sewer system and directed to the wastewater pretreatment plant, where they are treated through a mechanical-chemical process to meet the quality standards of the NTPA 002 Norm for discharged wastewater.

The wastewater treatment process involves several stages, from homogenization, filtration, flocculation, to neutralization. All these operations are carried out in an automated and optimized system to the highest standards. The wastewater discharge metering system is state-of-the-art (ultrasound meters) to accurately monitor the volume of discharged water.

Another aspect we focus on is reducing the consumption of technological and domestic water to minimize the volume of wastewater, as we are aware that water resources are limited.

Environmental Management

We manage an Authorization Management Program as part of our Environmental Management System.

Best Practices in the Workplace

We adopt sustainable practices in the field of investments, facilitating the integration of the best workplace practices in accordance with European standards.

These practices allow for the allocation of funds for essential safety investments and addressing environmental issues in line with current regulations.

Emergency response plans and instructions are established within the company to identify potential emergency situations, ensuring an adequate and prompt reaction. The company maintains maintenance logs necessary to track the inspection and repair schedule for machinery and installations.

Our employees are trained to comply with environmental obligations, particularly regarding selective waste collection and preventing its generation.
